Occ Summary

The Clinical Lead RN is a role developed to wo rkin coordination withthe nursing leadership in an assigned unit or depa rtment to ensure thework is accomplished effectively. The Clinical Lead RNis the first linesupport for staff, physicians and other related provi ders on service-specific clinical issues. The Clinical Lead RN is genera lly a long-termrole, requiring clinical and interpersonal skills. The Cl inical Lead RNcollaborates with the manager on clinical and non-clinical issues(employee relations, individual behaviors, physician relationships ,etc.). The Clinical Lead RN is the support for theunit/department/servi ce when the manager is unavailable. The ClinicalTeam Leader is responsib le for supervising, directing, coaching andmentoring their assigned core group of staff.


Work Performed

Duties and responsibil ities include all those required of the CN IV aswell as:Plan and coordin ate clinical requirements for staff and ensure that allCBO and CBE requi rements for staff are current.Plan and assist with coordination of units taff schedules and submit formanager approval.Coordinate clinical requir ements with staff regarding equipment andsupplies.Consult with preceptor s and orientees on a regular basis to providesupport and determine howor ientation should proceed on an individualbasis.Collaborate with the mana ger for issue resolutions and projects toimprove work flow processesthro ughout the department utilizing aproactive approach.Collaborate withdiff erent departments (pharmacy, radiology, lab,registration) to resolve iss ues and improve work flow processesthroughout the department.Collaborate with the nurse managers in the interview process for newapplicants.Ment or/coach staff to enhance their professional development.Assesses the pe rformance of assigned new hires and orientees includingentry levelnurses , nursing care assistants and health unitcoordinators; provides ongoing feedback and coaching.Understand and communicate potential clinical equi pment or supply issuesto appropriate team members (Materials, Biomed, St erile Processing,etc).Mentor and monitor the preceptors for all new empl oyees.Provide clinical/education updates and skill check-offs to entire staffon a regular basis.Provides immediate support and education on poli cy, procedures,equipment and supplies.Responsible for learning, implemen ting and teaching newtechnology/procedures.Demonstrates awarenessof curr ent problems and basic plan for allpatients within assigned area.Provide s clinical consultation and guidance as needed to facilitatepatient care .Gives assistance and/or direction to staff to facilitate qualitypatient flow.Assess staffing needs according to workload and staff competency; R e-assigns and adjusts staffing based upon patient care needs.Delegates r esponsibilities within the scope of practice and validatedcompetencies i n order to meet the workload demands of the shift.Facilitates assignment s that support learning for the orientee or nurselearner.Promotes an atm osphere of open communication that facilitates staffinput into decision- making, resolution of conflict, and collegialityamong all healthteam mem bers.Communicates in an effective, professional manner.Facilitates staff performance audits related to attitude, teamperformance, The Joint Comm ission, DFS Standards and SCIP initiatives.Reviews and commentson forwar ded SRSs related to their team or shift.Facilitates and encourages staff participation in departmental andhospital committee and council meeting s.Attends departmental and hospital committee meetings as assigned.Coord inates, facilitates, participates and directs departmental projectswith follow-through and appropriate follow-up.Other projects and duties as di rected by the department managers.

Minimum Qualifications


Education

Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing required.


Experience

Three years of experience in nursing practice. Selected candidates must meet the Clinical Ladder requirements for CN III within one year of appointment.


Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Must have current or compact RN license in the State of North Carolina. BCLS certification is required.
