Occ Summary

Develop, improve, or restore skills in activit iesof daily living, workor productive activities and play or leisure. In tervention involvestherapeutic use of meaningful and purposeful occupati ons, adaptation ofenvironments, promotion of health and wellness, graded tasks andactivities as prerequisites to engagement in occupations, desi gn,fabrication, application or training in the use of assistive technolo gyor orthotic/prosthetic devices, application of physical agent modaliti esand application of ergonomic principles to the performance ofoccupatio ns. Serve as a resource person for the team and department;participates inorientation of new staff therapists, physicians andother health person nel. The senior participates in teaching activitiesfor occupational ther apy and other health related students.

See departmental criteria for clinical ladder advancement eligibility.D emonstrate and articulate sound clinical reasoning in synthesizingcomple xevaluation data identifying diagnosis and developing acomprehensive pla n of care.Develop and update appropriate plan of care in collaboration w ith thepatient/family and related to the person's age and lifestyle with measurable long and short term goals and a defined D/C plan.Understand t he role of occupational therapy in the context of thepatient's age, tota l needs perspective and environment.Select and administer appropriate as sessment and treatment techniques.Perform age appropriate competency ski lls in area of practice and withrespect to individual patient's problems .Follow intervention protocols and revise interventions appropriately.Di scharge patient when goals have been met or medical necessity is nolonge r indicated.Establish provisions for continuing services/follow up as ne eded.Meet competency skills for evaluations in area of practice.Consiste ntly meet patient care productivity standard as established forjob class ification.Work cooperatively with supervisors and peers to contributeto theoverall productivity of the team.Utilize support personnel (aides, se nior aides, assistants) asappropriate and available.Actively support and participate in patient coverage efforts across alldivisions within thed epartment as necessary.Assess thelearning needs and capabilities of pat ients and caregivers.Initiate patient and family education in a timelyma nner relative toage, LOS, readiness to learn, and emotional status.Utili ze appropriate methods and materials for effective learning,monitoring r esponse to education, and adapting program appropriately.Ensure thatpati ent/family understands when and how to access furtherintervention.Patien t care documentation is timely, legible, and efficient.Documentationis c oncise, pertinent and meets the professions anddepartments documentation standards.Oral reporting is clear, concise, relevant, and timely.Perfor m all required data collection for the department accurately andwithin e xpected time frame.Peer review standards are consistently met.Collaborat e effectively with other members of the health care team.Take one to two students for short-term clinical rotation.Adjust supervisory techniques for individual students' needs.Provide in-services on clinical educatio n attended.Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications


Education

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy required, with Master's degree preferred.


Experience

None beyond required education, although more experience may be preferred at times.


Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Current Occupational Therapy license in North Carolina.
