Occ Summary

Level ICoordinate all phases of nutrition care i ncluding nutritionassessment, care planning, monitoring, education and c ounseling ofhospitalized patients and outpatients in a variety of settin gs. Performduties in support of and in compliance with performance impro vementplans, JCAHO, and other licensing, accrediting, and regulatoryagen cies.Level II Function in a supervisory role as a teamleader in addition to the duties and responsibilities of Level I.

Work Perform ed

Level I *Provide nutrition services and medical nutritionthera py integrated with the patient's medical goals. * Evaluate,interpret, m onitor and document the nutritional status and nutritionalneeds of hospi talized patients and out patients using establishedstandards of care and practice guidelines. *Identify and provideage-specific nutrition counse ling to meet the cultural needs of thepatients and their families. *Deve lop, review, update and implementeducational materials to meet the needs of patients and professionals.*Write order for diet, supplement, entera l/parenteral nutrition andlaboratory data per hospital policy. *Function as an integral member ofthe clinical interdisciplinary team. *Maintain registered dietitian(RD) status including continuing professional educat ion per theProfessional Development Portfolio. *Precept dietetic interns andprovide on the job training for newly hired clinical staff. *Supervi sedaily work of dietetic technicians, registered; provide input intoeval uation butdoesn'tdirectly evaluate their performance. *Complywith Nutr ition Services meeting and attendance standards.LevelII *Perform all the duties and responsibilities of Level I.*Complete monthly performance im provement reports. *Assist thedepartmentdirector in reviewing and updat ing department policies andprocedures *Plan and coordinate the work sche dule and daily work loadof the clinical dietitians and dietetic interns *Other duties assignedby the department director

Minimum Qualifications


Level I Baccalaureate degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences, HumanNutrition, or comparable major. Successful completion of coordinated program or dietetic internship of not less than 900 hours under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian. Level II Same as Level I


Level I Level II One year in an acute care environment preferred; experience may be waived for specific positions. Two years in an acute care environment with one year supervisory experience preferred; experience may be waived for specific positions.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Level I Level II Registered dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration; candidates eligible for registration may be hired with the understanding that registration will be achieved within 90 days of hire. Licensed dietitian/nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition; proviso for license-eligible dietitians as above Registered dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Licensed dietitian/nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition Or equivalent combination of experience and education
